How To Provide Disabled Veterans Assistance

By Jessica Nelson

Heading to far away war-ravaged countries is not the biggest fear to many of our soldiers. The primary concern for a huge majority of the returning vets has to be the process of integrating back into the society. Turning a soldier into an ordinary civilian is the hardest job there is. It takes a lot of strength and willpower to get the soldiers to be fully functioning members of the society once more. At times, some soldiers are completely unable to fit right in with the rest of the society and they end up taking their lives. Here are some of the suggestions on how best to give disabled veterans assistance.

The problem of adjusting is compounded and made worse for soldiers who were severely injured. Soldiers who end up coming home from a tour without a limb find life almost unbearable. This cadre of veterans coming home without limbs cannot secure employment. What's more, they find great difficulty in coping with their families especially their spouses. The help soldiers like this need and require is immense. They require financial assistance to psychological support before they can be able to integrate back into the society entirely.

Soldiers suffering from the aftermath of war at times tend to slide and slip into depression and develop post-traumatic stress syndrome. PTSD is a chronic condition that has in the past led to soldiers turning violent and going on a killing spree.

Without the proper help and assistance, most of the soldiers are not even able to secure a decent house to live in. Their landlords are always harassing them and eventually removing them from their premises owing to unpaid rent.

Walking around major metropolis like New York and Las Angeles will give you a chance to witness firsthand all the veterans who are homeless in America. How could it be that the same veterans who almost gave up their entire lives are now living in poverty as we pass them going about our businesses? Not right, not even one bit.

The authorities have talked on end about the best means and ways with which to solve this concern of biblical proportions. Up to this very moment, their efforts are seemingly not working because the problem keeps on getting bigger and out of control. The various laws and policies the government has put in place to shed and protect the veterans from the issues the likes of living on the streets have a long way to go.

It is our moral duty as civilians to do all we possibly can to bail out this lot of individuals. We can help them by donating to them our clothes, giving them food to eat and if possible trading in our frequent flyer miles and allowing them to fly to their dream destinations come the next holiday.

Homeowners are always being requested to be as kind as to give housing to the veterans. The government has a plan whereby they cut the tax payable by the landlords as a show of gratitude for their role in assisting the veterans with cheap housing. Perhaps, the best way we can express our undying gratitude to the soldiers is by saying thank you.
